Server-based compressors have to limit you: every image they take costs them compute and bandwidth, and your photos sit in their infrastructure while it happens. Frequently asked
Does compressing change the resolution?
No. The pixel dimensions stay exactly the same. Only the encoding gets more efficient: better entropy coding, smarter quantization and no metadata. A 4000 by 3000 photo stays 4000 by 3000.
What quality level does Auto actually pick?
It depends on the photo, which is the point. Busy, textured shots usually land around mozjpeg quality 85 to 90; smooth or already soft images can go lower without visible change. You never have to guess a number that fits your whole batch.
Can I compress a JPEG that was already compressed?
Yes. If there is still room, you get a smaller file. If there is not, Filexum notices the re-encode would grow the file and returns your original untouched, marked as already optimized. Your files never get bigger here.
Is it really lossless?
JPEG re-encoding is technically lossy, so we do not use that word. The honest claim is visually lossless: the difference exists mathematically but is below what eyes notice at normal viewing. The compare slider lets you verify on your own photos.
What about EXIF, GPS and camera info?
The compressed copy is rebuilt from pixels, so embedded location, device details and thumbnails are stripped. That alone often saves tens of kilobytes and removes data you may not want to share. Originals on your device are not modified.
Is there a file size or batch limit?
No quota, no cap, no queue. Compression happens on your hardware, so a 200 photo batch costs us the same as one photo: nothing. Large batches are processed a couple of files at a time so memory stays safe.
My iPhone photos are HEIC, not JPG. What do I do?
Run them through our HEIC to JPG converter first, or drop them here to get compact JPEGs directly. Both happen on your device.
